Cancer Fundraising Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: short documentary need structure/topic help!?
hi, i have to make a 6 minute doctumentary on some fundraising i recently did for cancer research. i could do the usual thing and talk about how important CR is or i thought i might talk about how difficult the law makes it for young people to do charity work and organise events etc as well. i am not allowed a second over six minutes and i need to cram! i don't know how much time to devote to opening, middle or end, i don't know how to conclude and i haven't a clue in what order to talk about stuff. basically i am so clueless tat i'm buggered unless you help! thank you! If you can't would you support such a tribute? (CNN) -- After almost 3,000 miles of rowing, bouts of seasickness, equipment failure and salt sores, Paul Ridley is back on land.On day 88, Ridley, 25, completed his solo rowing trip across the Atlantic Ocean, becoming the youngest American ever to do so. For nearly three months, Ridley has been rowing up to twelve hours a day on the 2,950-mile journey to raise cancer awareness and hopefully raise money for cancer research. His organization "Row for Hope" was inspired by the death of his mother from skin cancer in 2001. Dedicating the trip to the memory of his mother, Ridley's goal was to cross the Atlantic Ocean with only oars and raise $500,000 for research at the Yale Cancer Center. While he arrived at his destination, he still has to raise $400,000 to meet his goal. After their mother died, Ridley and his sister Joy Ridley created Row for Hope, a fundraising effort in memory of their mother. The courage to confront and even embrace his discomfort and the danger from winter ocean weather comes from his mother Katherine. "Her fight was courageous but short," Paul said. "After she was gone I remember wondering how anyone ever moves on from that kind of loss." But even once on land, this journey is not over. In fact, it's just the beginning of a bigger expedition. "We'd like to keep Row for Hope alive to support other athletes who want to take on similar adventures for cancer research," he said. "We've learned a lot in the last several years, and we've set up the framework for other people to use. Basically, we want to help people use their big dreams to create big change in the fight against cancer." http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/03/29/impact.row.atlantic/index.html moreResolved Question: Planning a fundraiser - Can you help?
I want to organise a fundraiser for a child who has cancer. I live in the UK but the baby lives in America. Just a few questions: 1. Do I need to register this as a charity? 2. How do I approach sponsors for the fundraising event? Letter, email, in person? 3. Should I prepare a presentation to encourage sponsors to donate? 4. What are some good ideas for fundraising? (Bingo, poker, etc...) 5 How can I attract a high profile guest/entertainer? Anything else you may think I need to know? Thank you in advance! moreResolved Question: Planning a fundraiser - Can you help?
