Open Question: How to pay for home repairs after buying?

I am planning on purchasing a house, however it is in need of some restoration work. The asking price is $590k, however it's been for sale for a few years due to its enormous size and cost to restore/maintain. The restoration work that is needed costs some serious dough, is it possible to add the amount required to the mortgage and instead of financing a $590k house, finance a $690k house so I can get the roofing and siding repaired? Or would I have to take out an additional loan, and if so which has the highest limit with lowest interest rates. Also, to people who think I'm crazy for needing $100k for a roof and some siding, the house is roughly 6700sqft, plus garage that's about the size of a McDonalds. more

Resolved Question: What is the right religion for me?

Fast food restaurants entice us by allowing us to order our food exactly the way we want it. Some coffee shops boast over a hundred different flavors and varieties of coffee. Even when buying houses and cars, we can look for one with all the options and features we desire. We no longer live in just a chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry world. Choice is king! You can find about anything you want according to your own personal likes and needs. So how about a religion that is just right for you? How about a religion that is guilt-free, makes no demands, and is not encumbered with a lot of bothersome do's and don'ts? It is out there, just as I have described. But is religion something to be chosen like a favorite flavor of ice cream? There are a lot of voices vying for our attention, so why should anyone consider Jesus above, say, Muhammad or Confucius, Buddha, or Charles Taze Russell, or Joseph Smith? After all, don't all roads lead to Heaven? Aren't all religions basically the same? The truth is that all religions do not lead to Heaven, just as all roads do not lead to Indiana. Jesus alone speaks with the authority of God because Jesus alone conquered death. Muhammad, Confucius, and the others molder in their graves to this very day. But Jesus, by His own power, walked away from the tomb three days after dying on a cruel Roman cross. Anyone with power over death deserves our attention. Anyone with power over death deserves to be heard. The evidence supporting the resurrection of Jesus is overwhelming. First, there were over five hundred eye witnesses of the risen Christ! That is a lot of eye witnesses. Five hundred voices cannot be ignored. There is also the matter of the empty tomb. The enemies of Jesus could have easily stopped all talk of the resurrection by producing His dead, decaying body, but there was no dead body for them to produce! The tomb was empty! Could the disciples have stolen His body? Hardly. To prevent such a contingency, the tomb of Jesus had been heavily guarded by armed soldiers. Considering His closest followers had fled in fear at His arrest and crucifixion, it is most unlikely this ragtag band of frightened fishermen would have gone head to head against trained, professional soldiers. Nor would they have sacrificed their lives and become martyrs—as most of them did—for a fraud. The simple fact is that the resurrection of Jesus cannot be explained away! Again, anyone who has power over death deserves to be heard. Jesus proved His power over death; therefore, we need to hear what He says. Jesus claims to be the only way to salvation (John 14:6). He is not a way; He is not one of many ways. Jesus is the way. And this same Jesus says, "Come to me all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). This is a tough world and life is difficult. Most of us are pretty well bloodied, bruised, and battle-scarred. Agree? So what do you want? Restoration or mere religion? A living Savior or one of many dead "prophets"? A meaningful relationship or empty rituals? Jesus is not a choice—He is the choice! Jesus is the right "religion" if you are looking for forgiveness (Acts 10:43). Jesus is the right "religion" if you are looking for a meaningful relationship with God (John 10:10). Jesus is the right "religion" if you are looking for an eternal home in Heaven (John 3:16). Place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior; you will not regret it! Trust in Him for the forgiveness of your sins; you will not be disappointed. If you want to have a "right relationship" with God, here is a sample prayer. Remember, saying this prayer or any other prayer will not save you. It is only trusting in Christ that can save you from sin. This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. "God, I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!" What is the right religion for me? more

Open Question: College Transfer Fear?

I've been going to a community college, off and on, since fall 2003. I've been wanting to transfer to an Art College, but I'm not sure which area I'd like to pinpoint my studies. I thought I had narrowed things down to animation, but there's also my passion for the culinary arts, graphic design, and art restoration. I'd love to transfer out of state just to try to live on my own for a while, but I have too many responsibilities here at home. I live near Chicago and I've looked at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Columbia College, but what if the out-of-state schools offer more? To make matters worse, I'm petrified to send out my portfolio. I've also tried collegeboard.com, but that doesn't really help me.I've been at the jr. college for so long because: 1. my dad didn't want to pay for any university (especially art college), but he's not in my life anymore. 2. I didn't want to waste tens of thousands of dollars at a university and realize I didn't want to go to school for ___ anymore. 3. I have responsibilities at home, and the jr. college is only 15 minutes away in case there's an emergency. I really want to continue my education. I want to earn a Master's degree at least... This costs so much money, which is why I want to be absolutely sure with my decision. I enjoy all the art passions I listed equally. I don't know what to do. more

Resolved Question: Muslim leadership - Ultimate answer for prosperous India?

Many may jump to say "Let Muslims lead themselves first and then bother about leading the nation". Please cool down and don't get emotional. Let us keep an open mind and look into the situation. Despite making it's mark in all walks of science and technology, why India could NOT provide better quality of life for 70% of it's population who do NOT have access to toilets and clean water?. Why India has become silent on the regional superpower dream and Dr.Kalam's vision 2020?. Why do we look inferior compared to China?. The naked truth is staring right on our face. Overpopulation. 1.2+ billion ever growing silent nightmare called overpopulation. It's a bottomless pit. Can we ever get out of it?. Is the ship sinking?. How Muslim leadership can resolve overpopulation crisis?: There are 55 OIC Islamic nations whose combined land and mineral resources is 15 times more than India. Out of 1.7 billion Muslim population, around 1.1 billion is living across 10 countries - Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, Malaysia and the rest of SE Asia. Around 600 million, 50% of India's population, is spread across 40 Islamic countries which is very low population density by world standards. Today, the Muslim world is living under the threat of US and Israel. Countries like Iraq and Afghanistan are living examples of US+Israel invasion. The only way to protect their lands and resources is to allow migration and populate with able manpower. Quran gives unequivocal mandate for Muslims living outside Darul Islam to migrate and live in Darul Islam. Muslim leadership can negotiate with 55 OIC nations and openup opportunity for 250 million Muslims to migrate and rebuild their homes in Darul Islam. Forget the likes of Shahrukh Khans and Amir Khans. More than 80% Muslims have got nothing to loose and they will be very happy to migrate for better hopes. This will create space for 250 million non Muslims in India. Also it will create millions of jobs for Hindus for another 50 years. Above all, this will bring ultimate peace and prosperity in the subcontinent. Blueprint to make India, a true world leader. 850 million Hindus should give this mandate for a new Indian Muslim leadership. Will Muslim leadership compromise Hindu identity?. A valid fear. Narendra Modi likes to call Muslims "Babur ke aulad - Children of Babur". Let him get his facts right. More than 60% of Indian Muslims are Shudra converts who renounced Hinduism to escape the caste based discrimination and suppression. The rest are from other high castes. Who is Babur ke aulad?. Look at Taj Mahal. Shahjehan is the true Babur ke aulad. Majority Hindus think that Taj Mahal is a Muslim holy shrine. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, this is an unIslamic structure. Shahjehan constructed a Mosque like structure on the cemetry of his wife and worshipped (ibadad) her for the rest of his life, ignoring the duty and welfare for his citizens. This is "shirq" in Islam. A simple Mosque in a Muslim "mohallah" is much more dearer for us than Taj Mahal, which has got nothing to do with our faith Islam. Ample historic evidence proves that Taj Mahal was originally called as Tejo Mahalaya, a palace temple of Lord Shiva. http://www.stephen-knapp.com/was_the_taj_mahal_a_vedic_temple.htm To win the trust and confidence of 800 million Hindus, 250 million Muslims should demand for the restoration of original Tejo Mahalaya. It's high time to kick out the ghost of Babur and 1947 partition.http://alamsha.sulekha.com/blog/post/2009/05/muslim-leadership-ultimate-answer-for-prosperous.htm more

Resolved Question: What are the tax issues when selling a house for less then it's worth?

I had to do a short sale on my home. Because of my new credit score, my mother purchased a house and I rent it from her. We have a contract for a three year lease with an option to purchase at the end of the lease. I believe my credit will improve up by then. I'm afraid the value of the home will skyrocket in three years. My mother is willing to sell it to me for 10% above her puchase price but are there any tax penelties if the home actually doubled in value during the three years? I am doing a lot of restoration to the home so I expect the value to soar. more

Voting Question: Can anyone recomend a decent scope for an 8mm mauser?

A buddy of mine started "sporterizing" an 8mm mauser and now is selling the rifle for cheap. Long story short I'm a sucker for the 98 mauser actions so for such a cheap price I figured Id salvage what I could. However, the rifle is so far gone that it unfortunately cannot be restored back to its military specs.... my love for mausers particularly 8mm couldn't let this one go to another bad home. Im more of a 12g and C&R restoration kind of guy so Im not sure what would be a good scope for target practice and the occasional elk hunt. Can anyone recommend a reliable scope that's on the lower end of the price spectrum without sacrificing quality? more

Resolved Question: Restoration of a reputation for sports celebrities?

In all football codes we have ongoing issues with bad behaviour. Here is a recently published outline for how US gridiron star and convicted felon Michael Vick might do well to respond now that he has been paroled. Does something like this make sense for Union and League personalities? "So how can Vick do that while also convincing a team it's safe to make a deal with the Falcons to acquire him? Here's a 4-point plan: • Be genuine. No prepared statements written by somebody else. Speak from the heart about your remorse and how for the rest of your life you will think every day about the mistakes you made and those you hurt and disappointed. Talk about what it means to be a felon for life and what you thought about during those 19 months in Leavenworth. • Be humble. You will be under intense scrutiny for the rest of your life. You will always be the guy who killed the dogs. You can't shout back at the protesters. You can't be defensive. Listen to Tony Dungy as a spiritual adviser. He will help you and if he sees proof that you are sincere, he might even vouch for you one day. Pass on the reality show pitches. No bling. And, oh yeah: Please stop talking about yourself in the third person. • Be accountable. Goodell wants to know specifically how your life is going to be different. Commit to ongoing counseling. Commit to specific public service in your new hometown (ask Drew Brees(notes) what he did in Katrina-ravaged New Orleans after signing with the Saints), including a partnership with the Humane Society's anti-fighting and cruelty campaign • Be generous. Reinstate your charity foundation and get back to doing good in the community. Pledge to donate tickets to youth groups and speak with them after every home game about how you went from the Pro Bowl to a prison cell. The best way to turn your mistakes into a positive is to use the experience to help at-risk kids not make the same horrific choices. That can be your legacy." Mark LSource: Kevin Sullivan writing at sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blogs/shutdown_cornerI'm with you FRF: there was a time when love of the game meant giving back, and passing on the positive aspects. I don't over-romanticize this, but I wonder if that was more common when it (I'm thinking rugby union) was an amateur game? more

Resolved Question: Help! Condo owner needs advice. Negligent/filthy neighbor with extensive water damage and rat infestation!?

I own a condo/town home. I noticed water was puddling in my kitchen from under the baseboard of the wall that adjoins my neighbor. I called a plumber out to be sure it wasn't an issue in my unit. Couldn't find anything here. Noticed that the next door neighbor's patio area had a lot of collected water and also mold on the exterior siding. Also noticed what looked like water coming down the window from inside. Rang the doorbell and knocked w/ no answer. Noticed her car parked out front ( she only has one). Got worried and called condo association but couldn't reach anyone since it's Saturday. Got really worried after extensive knocking on neighbor's door and no answer. Called cops. Cops come out and enter home ( back door was unlocked). Cops find home empty but are flabergasted at the state of affairs inside. The entire upstairs bathroom floor had collapsed into the kitchen area with water pouring down walls-- entire dining room/kitchen area flooded. Cops also mention extensive mold on walls and rats and roaches running around!! Garbarge everywhere inside. A complete nightmare. The cops said the place needs to be condemned. Finally talk to property management company who seems to think that it's okay to wait until Monday to do anything. We have our plumber turn off the water outside. A few hours later a water and fire damage restoration company shows up stating they received a call from the unit owner ( landlord). The guy says the tenant has 'been out of town' and is supposed to be meeting him there. We inform him of what is going on inside. Tenant shows up in a cab and promptly tells us that she was unaware of any problem and has been out of town since Wednesday. She also mentioned that the landlord was aware of the issue before the condo association called him?? How did he know if she didn't know?? It's obvious by the extensive damage inside that this has been an ongoing problem. Not only that but what explains the filth, garbage, and rats?! I need some good advice on what my next steps should be. We are going to file a complaint at city hall and I will be contacting the owner and demanding that he pay for a full inspection of my unit as well as any necessary repairs. I am worried about the health hazard and the potential damage to my structure! Should I seek legal help? Any advice is greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Need help with a good business name for a massage therapy practice!?

I'm approaching graduation to become a certified massage therapist and currently i'm designing a mandatory project representing what my own business could (in my case, will) be. To give you a quick background into what I plan to offer: Specializing in oriental bodywork and medicine, I will offer Thai Yoga Massage (northern style), Zen Shiatsu, Reflexology, Reiki, and Restoration Therapy. For now i'm a sole proprietor, so the name has to be for me and me alone. Eventually I may expand into a spa type atmosphere with my own man-made hot springs and Japanese style inn (ryokan), but I could always change the name later right? By the way, that's many years down the road! For now all I will offer is the massage and eventually after more education more about medicinal herbs, etc. Now that's giving you a summary of what I do and might offer at the very least. There is a couple ideas that have inspired me, such as http://www.tenthousandwaves.com japanese style spa in Santa Fe, NM. BEAUTIFUL, and very close to the type of atmosphere i'd offer. Another example is the "Eight Branches" School of Asian Bodywork ( http://www.eightbranches.org/global/pages/Home/index.html ). What i've noticed about these names? They don't have what I call "filler" words like "of" or "the", it isn't boring such as "Jesse's Massage, LMT", but it's simple and uses words that flow easily. "Ten Thousand Waves" makes me think of a rolling ocean, which for some people is therapeutic. "Eight Branches" signifies simplicity about something common in nature, and yet it feels as if it fits, and for some it can signify peace. It doesn't need to be complex, but it should relate to what I offer in some form. I tried fitting "Zen" in the name, but there is already many businesses with that name. And i'm not sure if I should have it as a name in another language, or just english. Hope you've got some good ideas! more

Resolved Question: how much do you think this will cost to repair?

Hello all, if it isn't one thing here after another, but i live in a older manufactured home, and had a water leak in the master bath. It damaged the floor boards in the bathroom, as well as adjoing wall to the bedroom and the surrounding floors. They had to tear up about 30 +sq feet of floor and a wall, insulation, carpet and wood flooring. What else should i claim when insurance adjuster comes tomorrow (i had stuff in the closet where the water went. ). How much do you think they will say it will cost to fix. i have had a water restoration company here for the last 3 days, running big machines 24-7. Resolved Question: Long time family feuds that never get better, restoration required?

ok i really don't know where to start and it might take a minute to explain. Well there is my mom she is totally selfish and prideful. Then there is my baby sister who is the same but a little less than mom. dad he is an alcoholic and drug addict that makes you feel responsible for his complete happiness. and then there is me a person who loves to give and is sensitive. But i am tired of them all. at one time in my life i was alone with nothing no car no home nothing because of a ex who took everything. None of them cared at all what i was going through just talked about me. Now my life is good I have a husband who loves me and a car a home and i am happy. but they are not happy for me at all. now i have my nose up and my world is revolved around my husband and don't bow to there every need. and that is not the case at all . my mom is so rude she wouldn't know if i was alive or dead u know doesn't have a relationship with my girls nothing and on my space she sends my sister a happy mother's day comment and me nothing. it like they want to hurt me and don't care. i thought a family was suppose to stick together no matter what. my family its like they look for everything to fight and not talk. but what i really need help with is not being angry and bitter over it even though its been forever i use to think when i was a kid i was adopted seriously and that is not for u to feel sorry for me it was that serious. i keep telling myself just don't talk to them but i do love them they are my family and i want it to be ok but i can't make it happen alone we all have to want it. so again how do i keep from being a bitter person because last night i could have threw my lap top across the room. help me please more

Resolved Question: What should I do to improve my plot? Any people out there talented at sub-plot making?

I won't give you my whole story. Not because I'm oh-so afriad someone will steal my plot, but because I can't fit all of it on this question. Okay. So the main character, Silver, lives on a parallel plane to earth in a parallel universe to ours. Her planet, Niveus Terra (white earth in latin) always snows, and more then a few minutes on the surface can kill you. So her people, the Silyus (Sill-yuhs, not silly-us), basiclly human except for completley page-white skin, four fingernailess fingers and the kids have 3009 bones, live in underground towns and cities connected by a huge network of tunnels. anyway, the tunnels are collapsing, and someone needs to go to earth and get back the object, the First Sun, which was stolen by a group of corrupt people banished to earth during the beggining of the world (huge prolouge about belief of creation, can't write it here.), leaving the planet in ice and whiteness. So, the some Silyus, the Veneficus, speak a Language of a point in nature or an animal or thing like Dawn or Stone. In the beggining, everyone spoke the same language. Anyway, silver speaks the Language of Change, though that is revealed in the end. While imagining herself as a human, she turns into one (on appearence) and is the only one able to do so. She needs to go to earth and find the first sun to melt the snow and bring heat so the Silyus can abandon their collapsing homes and live on the surface. Only she can pass as human, no one else. They need human contact to get info and get the first sun back. She is confused of the human world at first, and there are sub-plots about waht happens in the semi-middle. In the end, she decides she can't destroy earth, because if she takes away the first sun earth will die like Niveus Terra. so she goes back, diaaspointed, and everyone is in mouning. Bu it turns out that some necklace one of the people she befriends on earth gave her is the Second sun of Restoration, and brings back the sun. The end. blah blah blah. What are some sub-plots I can use? is the first and second suns a good idea?? ACK! suggestions, PLEASE! more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this news article?

Hal G. P. Colebatch | April 21, 2009 Article from: The Australian BRITAIN appears to be evolving into the first modern soft totalitarian state. As a sometime teacher of political science and international law, I do not use the term totalitarian loosely. There are no concentration camps or gulags like in America, but there are thought police with unprecedented powers to dictate ways of thinking and sniff out heresy, and there can be harsh punishments for dissent. Nikolai Bukharin claimed one of the Bolshevik Revolution's principal tasks was "to alter people's actual psychology". Britain is not Bolshevik, but a campaign to alter people's psychology and create a new Homo britannicus is under way without even a fig leaf of disguise. The Government is pushing ahead with legislation that will criminalise politically incorrect jokes, with a maximum punishment of up to seven years' prison. The House of Lords tried to insert a free-speech amendment, but Justice Secretary Jack Straw knocked it out. It was Straw who previously called for a redefinition of Englishness and suggested the "global baggage of empire" was linked to soccer violence by "racist and xenophobic white males". He claimed the English "propensity for violence" was used to subjugate Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and that the English as a race were "potentially very aggressive". In the past 10 years I have collected reports of many instances of draconian punishments, including the arrest and criminal prosecution of children, for thought-crimes and offences against political correctness. Countryside Restoration Trust chairman and columnist Robin Page said at a rally against the Government's anti-hunting laws in Gloucestershire in 2002: "If you are a black vegetarian Muslim asylum-seeking one-legged lesbian lorry driver, I want the same rights as you." Page was arrested, and after four months he received a letter saying no charges would be pressed, but that: "If further evidence comes to our attention whereby your involvement is implicated, we will seek to initiate proceedings." It took him five years to clear his name. Page was at least an adult. In September 2006, a 14-year-old schoolgirl, Codie Stott, asked a teacher if she could sit with another group to do a science project as all the girls with her spoke only Urdu. The teacher's first response, according to Stott, was to scream at her: "It's racist, you're going to get done by the police!" Upset and terrified, the schoolgirl went outside to calm down. The teacher called the police and a few days later, presumably after officialdom had thought the matter over, she was arrested and taken to a police station, where she was fingerprinted and photographed. According to her mother, she was placed in a bare cell for 3 1/2 hours. She was questioned on suspicion of committing a racial public order offence and then released without charge. The school was said to be investigating what further action to take, not against the teacher, but against Stott. Headmaster Anthony Edkins reportedly said: "An allegation of a serious nature was made concerning a racially motivated remark. We aim to ensure a caring and tolerant attitude towards pupils of all ethnic backgrounds and will not stand for racism in any form." A 10-year-old child was arrested and brought before a judge, for having allegedly called an 11-year-old boya "Paki" and "bin Laden" during a playground argument at a primary school (the other boy had called him a skunk and a Teletubby). When it reached the court the case had cost taxpayers pound stg. 25,000. The accused was so distressed that he had stopped attending school. The judge, Jonathan Finestein, said: "Have we really got to the stage where we are prosecuting 10-year-old boys because of political correctness? There are major crimes out there and the police don't bother to prosecute. This is nonsense." Finestein was fiercely attacked by teaching union leaders, as in those witch-hunt trials where any who spoke in defence of an accused or pointed to defects in the prosecution were immediately targeted as witches and candidates for burning. Hate-crime police investigated Basil Brush, a puppet fox on children's television, who had made a joke about Gypsies. The BBC confessed that Brush had behaved inappropriately and assured police that the episode would be banned. A bishop was warned by the police for not having done enough to "celebrate diversity", the enforcing of which is now apparently a police function. A Christian home for retired clergy and religious workers lost a grant because it would not reveal to official snoopers how many of the residents were homosexual. That they had never been asked was taken as evidence of homophobia. Muslim parents who objected to young children being given books advocating same-sex marriage and adoption at one school last year had their wishes respected and the offending material withdrawn. This year, Muslim and ChristiSorry.. Stupid thing cut some of it off.. Heres the rest - parents at another school objecting to the same material have not only had their objections ignored but have been threatened with prosecution if they withdraw their children. There have been innumerable cases in recent months of people in schools, hospitals and other institutions losing their jobs because of various religious scruples, often, as in the East Germany of yore, not shouted fanatically from the rooftops but betrayed in private conversations and reported to authorities. The crime of one nurse was to offer to pray for a patient, who did not complain but merely mentioned the matter to another nurse. A primary school receptionist, Jennie Cain, whose five-year-old daughter was told off for talking about Jesus in class, faces the sack for seeking support from her church. A private email from her to other members of the church asking for prayers fell into the hands of school authorities.Sorry.. Stupid thing cut some of it off.. The Royal Navy, for instance, has installed a satanist chapel in a warship to accommodate the proclivities of a satanist crew member. "What would Nelson have said?" is a British newspaper cliche about navy scandals, but in this case seems a legitimate question. Satanist paraphernalia is also supplied to prison inmates who need it. This campaign seems to come from unelected or quasi-governmental bodies controlling various institutions, which are more or less unanswerable to electors, more than it does directly from the Government, although the Government helps drive it and condones it in a fudged and deniable manner. Any one of these incidents might be dismissed as an aberration, but taken together - and I have only mentioned a tiny sample; more are reported almost every day - they add up to a pretty clear picture. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,,25361297-7583, more

Voting Question: Can I buy a Commercial Property & turn it into a Residential Property?

I have been searching for months now (about 9 months) for an Apartment in the Clerkenwell/Shoreditch/Hoxton/ Spitalfields/Whitechapel area & am giving up hope. I've registered with countless Estate Agents, looked online at various websites that collaborate all Properties into one website, been to too many to mention buildings, houses, apartments and looked into auctioned properties and I'm considering, if it's possible to buy a Commercial Unit. What I'm looking for is a 2 bedroom Property, in the above areas, with outside space (not a Juliet Balcony), not on the Ground or First floor, unless it's a house at a budget of no more than £800,000. I have been shown the bottom of the barrel, the places no one wants to buy, hence the reason the properties I have seen are still on the market! (& people can't afford them as they are over-priced by home owners thinking they are worth that amount and greedy Estate Agents). My question is, is it legal to buy an office space (say on the 2nd etc or top floor) of a warehouse and convert it myself into a residential Property? I was thinking of making it into a live/work apartment, as the size of it would be great for a home/studio. The only drawback of course, is the amount of work/cost that would go into it building a kitchen/bathroom/wiring/restoration /council permits maybe etc, but this is something I am willing to consider. I am fully aware of the Recession, the Property Market problems, home owners holding back 6months to a year till they sell their property etc. and now might be a great time to buy, but if it is, why would you sell? I am looking for answers from people that have done this type of work before. If anyone knows the law of the land (U.K) when it comes to my question, I'd appreciate an answer. Only genuine answers please, answer if you know. No Guessing! Thanks. more

Resolved Question: How do you sell your service when your new in the business? Good sales pitches for door to door restoration?

I don't have a whole lot of money, and I'm a restoration sales specialist for homeowners. I don't know what to say that will get the owner to listen to me. I am not that aggressive but I need to know what I can say to get the homeowner interested in what I am saying. It's not a scam, it really makes peoples homes whole, and they only have say one month to get a claim filed or they are not going to be able to make their home whole from the damage that has happened. What are great opening lines when the homeowner first comes to the door. I say, Hi my name is, and they already want to shut the door. Or first off I'm not selling anything that takes your money. We get their insurance to cover everything including labor where it is due. Insurance companies don't go around giving people what they are entitled to, they won't even let you know. You have to know this as a home buyer so that you can get your roof repaired when it needs to be. Or siding, or windows, but I just don't know how to pitch this sell, when everyone, seems no one wants to talk to me? How do I dress, what are good opening lines, what can be said really fast to get everything out of the 1-2 minutes they don't even want to give you that might make them call, or make them want me to look at their roof right then and there. I like my job, just hate people, cause they are stupid and neglect something like their insurance, do you ignore your car insurance when you get in an accident, or do you say oh well, bob just totalled my car, guess I'll just drive this new 2009 and act like it didn't happen. Same with your home, if you had hail damage would you just ignore it, neglect it, say someone else is going to do it? Be nice but, no one does anything good for themselves, I'm selling something that can take a trend to a better home to a better neighborhood. What can be said in two minutes, when it takes ten minutes to write it all out, and still don't have it all written out? What percentage matters in my hair and clothes vs what I say? What do I need to say right away, that will entice the customer to make their own better judgement my own, its not manipulation, its persuasion. Getting people to come to their own best judgement or conclusion, that they need to get their home looked at, or find out, or get involved a little bit to see if they even qualify. It's good for the homeowner as a matter of fact. And they can do the work themselves if they really wanted to. But most people don't want to get off work to hire a sider, a roofer, or a window guy. Or get the inspections at the right time. People have also gone to jail trying it themselves and not hiring a business that this is all we do and do it right. Guess, I just need a lot of pointers in the shortest amount of time possible, please feel free to email me, and also as much as possible. I learn best from those that can teach, not put down. more

Resolved Question: Has America again become "Too proud to pray to the God that made us" as we were during the civil war?

Whereas, the Senate of the United States, devoutly recognizing the Supreme Authority and just Government of Almighty God, in all the affairs of men and of nations, has, by a resolution, requested the President to designate and set apart a day for National prayer and humiliation. And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord. And, insomuch as we know that, by His divine law, nations like individuals are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war, which now desolates the land, may be but a punishment, inflicted upon us, for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole People? We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness. Now, therefore, in compliance with the request, and fully concurring in the views of the Senate, I do, by this my proclamation, designate and set apart Thursday, the 30th. day of April, 1863, as a day of national humiliation, fasting and prayer. And I do hereby request all the People to abstain, on that day, from their ordinary secular pursuits, and to unite, at their several places of public worship and their respective homes, in keeping the day holy to the Lord, and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion. All this being done, in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less than the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now divided and suffering Country, to its former happy condition of unity and peace. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the City of Washington, this thirtieth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty seventh. By the President: Abraham Lincoln 1863 William H. Seward, Secretary of State. more

Resolved Question: Why is it somehow "wrong" to make a car salesman play by your rules when making a purchase?

My boyfriend of 6 months went with me to look at a 2006 Ford Mustang at a dealership today. He says it was "wrong" for me to make the salesman treat me a certain way and play by my rules. Here's a little background on me; I'm a 38 year old woman and have been an ASE certified auto mechanic for 18 years. I'm part owner of the shop my dad founded in 1980 and I serve as the general manager in charge of 10 mostly male employees so I'm used to getting respect. Although, if you ask any of my guys, I'm not an evil slave driver, I'm really cool about a lot of stuff. They just know they better show the utmost respect to customers and don't do anything dishonest. Whenever I go to buy anything big I like to keep the upper hand with the salesperson, unless its a private party sale where there's never any need to anyway. This is also the first time I've ever really dealt with a car dealer on a sales basis before; I usually drive whatever the shop is selling for unpaid mechanic's liens (I'm a single mom of 4; 1 in college, 1 in the Air Force and 2 at home and I don't make THAT much) but I just paid off my house (after 15 years) and I want something nice for once. I've saved for years for a newer car. Well, when we went into the dealership the salesman I talked to immediately tried to steer me towards buying a new Focus, a car I wouldn't buy if my life depended on it. I told him that I was only interested in the Mustang and unless he had an older Camaro or Firebird in good shape (for possible restoration) on his back lot, I wasn't interested in anything else. He then proceeded to call me "Missy" which I HATE being called. I may be female and reasonably attractive but "Missy" sounds like something you would call a little girl. My name is Sandra Elizabeth and the guys who work for me address me as various forms of those names (I'm not picky, one tech jokingly calls me Lizzie Macguire because I look like an older Hilary Duff and it doesn't bother me a bit) but would never, ever call me Missy and expect to keep their jobs. I told the salesman that if he wanted to earn a sale from a cash buyer he'd better address me as ma'am or by my name, take me to the car I wanted to see, not try to sell me anything else and keep his comments to himself while I inspected the vehicle unless I asked him a question. I even explained to him that I am a mechanic and I know exactly what I'm looking for (and probably a lot more about cars than he does) so his comments would be useless anyway. My rules with salesmen are basically show me respect, don't lie to me and let whatever you're selling sell itself. He wouldn't keep his mouth shut and kept treating me like a kid so I walked off and directly into the manager's office and explained to him that I didn't like the way the salesman treated me and that if I didn't get a full apology from him I was not going to purchase the car. The manager called the sales guy in and it sounded like he was getting a major talking to. The manager came out, apologized for the salesman and handled the details of the sale for me. My boyfriend says that I was too rough on the guy and I should have just let him do what he was doing. I'll admit that I am one tough cookie; who wouldn't be after raising 4 kids on their own and managing a shop full of men? I just felt I deserved reasonable respect. When I sell lien cars I basically leave the potential buyer alone until they have a question; its less intimidating particularly for inexperienced buyers. I want them to feel comfortable with me because if they do, they might use my shop in the future. more

Voting Question: I have a crazy crush on Al Gore! Would this get his attention?

A Modest Proposal For Saving the World With global warming attacking our beautiful planet and depleting our ozone layer, Earth doesn’t have much time left. We see this as a problem, a very big problem indeed. Something must be done to save the world (not to mention human life), and we have that solution. This grand, world-saving, solution is quite reasonable and not impossible: build a second earth to inhabit during the restoration of the original earth’s natural resources and ozone. But, where will we get the power to create this new planet? Easy, create new laws and form a group of World Police to enforce them. The new laws will be at the very least strict, but in order for our temporary planet to be created, things on Earth must change. Laws which will be created will be created for the purpose of preserving energy and power to firstly, save it for the creation of Second Earth, and secondly, to keep Original Earth from being harmed even more. For example, the use of any transportation, other than walking, running, or bike riding, is strictly forbidden. Vehicular pollution causes, at least, 92 million Americans to live with smog invading in their daily lives. By completely eliminating the burning of fossil fuels in vehicles, the amount of smog and acid rain will drastically decrease, and eventually disappear. Also, while on the subject of burning fossil fuels, big factories which cause millions of carbon dioxide/monoxide molecules to be released into our air will be permanently shut down. This will not only eliminate another source of pollution, but it will also put millions out of work, and that means all hands on deck for the construction of Second Earth. In addition to these new, innovative laws, cutting down plants and trees will also be a very, very awful offense. Plants and trees cleanse the air we breathe, and cutting down such a valuable resource would be utterly ridiculous. Therefore, after invoking such laws, there will be a plethora of people more than ready to create Second Earth, a better home for us all, until Original Earth has replenished itself in as natural of manner as possible. These laws, and hundreds more like them, plus the creation of Second Earth are exactly what this planet needs in order to survive the devastating effects of pollution… Right? Must we take such drastic measures in order to keep our planet from becoming a ozone-less dump? Instead, we believe that the transition from fossil fuel abusing vehicles to a generous amount of hybrid vehicles is actually benefiting our planet. If people would only step outside of their diesel trucks and realize what is happening to the only place they’ve got to call home, maybe more could be done to protect Earth. We’re talking about the eventual end of the world here! Is building a new planet the best solution? No. Stop killing and polluting our oxygen, stop relying on factories, and the material items they produce, to live. If the people on this planet wish to keep it, we should all join forces to make that happen. Then again, building Second Earth, and living without cars and planes would be a unbelievable amount of fun, and boy, we are definitely up for fun! more

Resolved Question: Have you heard the news about the fires in Texas and Oklahoma?

If someone is found guilty of deliberately causing fires like this, what kind of punishment do you recommend for them? This is effecting a lot of people including yours truly. My hard to come by work is being delayed until the smoke is not hazardous for my employees and customers, and damaging to my customers property--because if the smoke that is dominating our air gets into my customers homes, it could cause the expensive need for smoke restoration.I took a 240 miles round trip in Texas today, and the fires were still being fought in Eastland County by my nephew who is a volunteer fire fighter there. He told me some of the fires were caused by sparks from trains, but there are a lot of suspicious fires, too. Hopefully, the rain on Easter Sunday will put an end to the smoke and this round of disastrous fires. more

Resolved Question: Restoring the brick on the front of my house?

I have an older home. It is partial brick and partial cedar. The brick looks very worn. Does anyone know if there is a restoration product out there? I do not want to paint the brick. I was thinking there might be a product, like a gloss or something? I do not want to pay a company to do it either. I am looking to do it myself to save money. Thanks!! more

Resolved Question: '55 Chevy Restoration?

My uncle has a '55 Chevy truck that I am certain needs a complete restoration. Currently not running, but the frame appears to be in decent shape since its been hiding out in the garage. paint is not original, which is a shame. My uncle bought it from someone else who was too lazy to fix her up. so this truck has been out of commission for a long time. so my real question. how much would it run me to have a shop overhaul it for me? I live in a condo so its is impossible for me to even consider doing any of the work at home. At the moment i would just want it to be in working order. Lets assume this is a worst case scenario, and a lot of work will have to be done to get up to CA road standards. I just want to see how much of my budget i would need to realistically free up. I just want to get it to the point where its respectable. Its a shame having such a beautiful vehicle just sitting there for the past 10+ years.just to be a little more clear. I eventually want to have this sucker fully restored and back in its former glory. But at the moment I just want to have all structural and mechanical woes worked out. more

Resolved Question: 18 year old male just learning about details of circumsision?

Hello everyone. I have somewhat of an odd story to explain that has happened over the passed day. As I stated in my question heading I am 18 and I am also legally blind and have glaucoma. For those of you not familiar with this, basically I can't see anything/I'm blind. Wednesday the teacher gave us a topic to quick look up and do a presentation on. While I'm not gong to go into detail about the topic, it involved the circumsision of males as well as FGM. While I didn't think much of it, Today, I had to present. This is where things started to get interesting. Me and my friend stood up with our macbook and presented on the smart board. When the topic of circumsisioin came up my friend and the teacher kept bringing up points that made me cringe. After about 2 or so minutes I started feeling dizzy and then passed out. Thankfully my friend caught me before I fell and hit my head on something. Next thing I knew I was in my seat. I learned a lot from our presentatioin and when I left the school to come home (my mother picked me up) I learned that I was circumsized. This really made me feel awful. If no one knows what actually happens to 2 day old boys I think perhaps I should explain. Circumsision is an extremely painful and yet unnecessary procedure in which most of the foreskin is sliced from the baby penis. The infant is strapped to a table, his legs and arms, and is given a local anasthesia to numb the tip of the penis and the doctor or urologist slices the most sensative part of the organ away. I'm surprised I wrote that without passing out again. Before Today I didn't realize how much foreskin a male actually has at birth attached to his penis. I kind of understood circumsision as the process of just stitching the foreskin back on the top of the penis such as like a helmet as some call it. I was unaware that one is stripped of skin and some males actually suffer a terrible sex life from this. Some do this for religious purposes, some do it because the doctor says it is necessary for cleanliness purposes, but I think quite the opposite.. If one has good heigene, there should be no problem. The moral of my story here is that I feel extremely taken advantage of soncidering A. I've never seen a normal male organ before. B. All the details of the torture an infant goes through C. All the preconceived ideas that females find it unattractive and the heigene issues. I did not realize how much skin I actually had severed from my body. I feel embarrassed, ashamed and taken advantage of and am seriously contemplating getting surgery to grow back or some how reclaim my foreskin, all of it. One should never take any part of anyone's body that is unnecessary that is not causing any harm. Ijust feel helpless that I probably won't get to know what a normal organ feels like all do to religion and my mom's side. It is painful to first pass out in school do to the grotesque details of third world countries and how they treat their teenagers and that we do it here almost the same way. It is seriously like torture. I've read online the procedure to obtain your foreskin is between 8 and 20 grand. I've also read there is manual restoration of the foreskin. I am a mental mess right now that I have discovered this at my age. And even though I know that over half fo the men in this country have had their part circumsized I just feel I've been taken advantage of for no good reason. Does anyone have any advice for me? more

Voting Question: Why People of color should be Republicans.?

African Americans and Texas Politics Did You Know? Currently, Texas is the only state to have 3 African Americans serving in statewide office—all are Republicans: Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson, Texas Supreme Court Justice Dale Wainwright, and Railroad Chairman Michael Williams. Since Republicans became the statewide majority in 1994, 8 minority Texans have held statewide office; yet in the 122 years that Democrats controlled the State (18721994), only 4 minority Texans held statewide office. The Texas Republican Party was formed on July 4, 1867, in Houston by 150 African Americans and 20 white Texans. 2 of the first 3 statewide leaders of the Republican Party of Texas were African American. The first 42 African Americans elected to the Texas Legislature were Republicans. When the Republicans became the majority in the Texas Legislature in 1869, they established a system of free public schools to educate all the children of the State—something Democrats had refused to do. The first faith-based program was proposed in the 1870s by African American Republican Senator Matthew Gaines. When Democrats recaptured Texas government in 1872, Democrat Governor Richard Coke’s election was described as “the restoration of white supremacy.” President George W. Bush was the first president to appoint an African American as Secretary of State (Colin Powell). He also appointed blacks as National Security Advisor (Condoleeza Rice), Secretary of Education (Rod Paige), and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (Alphonso Jackson). In his second term, he appointed the second african american Secretary of State (Condoleeza Rice). With new programs established by President Bush, African American home ownership is at an all-time high. Of the 5 African Americans who have ever been U.S. Senators, 3 were Republicans. The 13th Amendment abolishing slavery passed Congress with the support of 100% of Republican members but with only 23% of the Democrat members. When the 14th and 15th Amendments extending civil rights and voting rights to African Americans passed, not even 1 Democrat in Congress voted for those amendments. Resolved Question: How do I clean black, smoke damaged ceiling and walls from a fire?

My husband and I are buying our very first home that needs some work and I am so overwhelmed and have no idea what to do or where to begin!! There was a fire in the house about 7 months ago and it caused damage to the Master Bedroom and Master Bathroom, which we are going to completely repair/replace. However, the walls and ceilings in the entire house are completely black. I don't know what to do with them! We spent yesterday and today trying different products to clean them, but at this point it seems so impossible!! I am planning to use Kilz Primer on each and every wall and ceiling, and am going to paint each and every wall as well. I just don't know how to clean the black walls, prior to the primer. Also, we are going to replace all of the carpet so that's not an issue. We've talked about hiring restoration pros, but are worried about the high costs. Plus, there aren't any in our area. Does anyone have any guesstimates on what it would cost to hire pros??? Thank you very much! more

Resolved Question: Estimated costs to restore historical house?

At the moment I am not prepared financially to invest in purchasing a home, however, I constantly dream about buying a relatively inexpensive historical home that needs major repairs. I see the homes listed at the back of "This Old House" magazines- that is exactly what I want, spending maximum $65,000 for the property itself. As most of these homes require a complete re-doing of plumbing, electricity, heating (possibly AC too), as well as all the work involving the floors, walls, etc., etc. I am absolutely clueless as to the costs for such restorations/work. How much money can a person expect to pay in addition to the property cost in order to completely restore a home? I would intend to do any possible work myself, as long as I could figure out how to do it! If anyone can break it down according to type of work that would be very helpful. Thanks so much! more

Voting Question: Should I buy new flooring from the Insurance Company's Restoration contractor?

I recently had water damage in my house due to flood caused by an under slab leak. My insurance company (AAA) hired an emergency service to come out and inspect, remove damamged materials, and, if I want, to restore my home back to normal. Part of that restoration is my flooring. We want to upgrade to tile or wood and this restoration company says we can do that with the allowance plus the difference if we go through them. Anyone have this experience in the past? Is it a good choice, bad, or unknown? Please help!!! Any good flooring companies in So Cal??? more

Resolved Question: How do I reset Vista Home Basic back to Original settings without losing programs or software I have installed?

I can't un install or reinstall EzTune on my Gateway Desktop and EzTune has a Monitor Gateway Theft Deterrence Shield that causes the screen to go Grey and Black. I need to get into the program to enter my password to deactivate the Detected Theft Warning but Windows Vista keeps saying that something caused EzTune to stop running and will close and will let me know when a solution is available. I called Gateway Tech support and they couldn't figure out how to correct the problem so they SUGGESTED that I restore Windows. I have many post installed programs, software, pictures, videos and information that I don't want to have to reinstall after a restoration. Is there a way I can restore Windows Vista Home Basic without having to restore everything after the OS restoration? (I'm not sure if I explained this issue clearly enough but I would appreciate any help I can get concerning it. Thanks.) more

Resolved Question: Quit the Church?? Do you think you can help me to find another church?

In a local newspaper in Provo, Utah, there had been an ongoing series of articles written by individuals who wanted to persuade LDS Church members to leave the Church. In response to the highly critical and spirited remarks, a local LDS member wrote this rebuttal: Editor: I have been thinking of quitting the Mormon Church. Yes, if I can, I am going to get even with that church. As soon as I can find another church that teaches about the Gathering of the House of Israel; the return of the Ten Tribes and their mission; the return of the Jews to Palestine and why, and how they are going to build the temple; the building of temples and what to do with them; the mission of Elias, the prophet, as predicted by Malachi; the method for the salvation of the people that died at the time of Noah in the flood; the origin of the American Indian; the complete explanation of why Jesus of Nazareth had to have a mortal mother but not a mortal father; the explanation of the three degrees of glory (three heavens) as mentioned by Paul; the complete explanation of why Elias and Moses did not die but had to be translated (since they both lived before the resurrection was introduced by Christ); the restoration of the gospel by modern revelation as promised by Peter and Paul and Jesus himself; the belief in eternal marriage and the family, and the knowledge and the place to seal for eternity; that teaches abstinence from all harmful drugs and foods ; and that sells the best fire insurance policy on earth, for the last days, for only a 10th of my income. Yes sir, as soon as I can find another church that teaches all that, or even half as much, I will say good-bye to this Mormon Church. The church that I am looking for must also be able to motivate 50,000+ youth, and adults, for the first, second or third time, to leave their homes for two years at their own expense and go to far-away places to teach and preach without salary. It must be able to call, on a frosty day, some 5 or 6 thousand professors, students, lawyers, doctors, judges, policemen, businessmen, housewives and children to go and pick apples at 6 a.m. It must be able to call meetings and get the attention for two hours of more than 150,000 men. Yes, it must also teach and show why salvation is assured for children who die before eight years of age. Mr. Editor, could you help me find a church that teaches all that and more than hundreds of other doctrines and principles, which I have no room to mention here, and which brings solace and comfort to the soul; peace, hope, and salvation to mankind, and above all, that answers the key questions that all the great philosophers have asked; questions and answers that explain the meaning of life, the purpose of death, suffering and pain; the absolute need for a Redeemer and the marvelous plan conceived and executed by Jesus Christ the Savior? Yes, as soon as I find another church that teaches that, and also that has the organization and the powers to make that teaching effective, I am going to quit the Mormon Church. For I should not tolerate that "they" should change a few words in the Book of Mormon-even if those changes simply improve the grammar and the syntax of the verses-for, after all, don't you think the Divine Church should employ angels as bookmakers, and clerks, to do all the chores on earth? Don't you think, Mr. Editor, that the Divine Church should also have prophets that don't get sick and don't get old and die, and certainly, that don't make a goof here and there. No, sir! A Divine Church should be so divine that only perfect people should belong to it, and only perfect people should run it. As a matter of fact, the Church should be so perfect that it should not even be here on earth! So, I repeat, if any one of the kind readers of this imperfect letter knows about another church that teaches and does as much for mankind as the Mormon Church, please let me know. And please do it soon, because my turn to go to the cannery is coming up. Also, "they" want my last son (the fifth one) to go away for two years and again, I have to pay for all that. And I also know that they expect me to go to the farm to prune trees, and I have heard that our ward is going to be divided again, and it is our side that must build the new chapel. And also, someone the other day had the gall of suggesting that my wife and I get ready to go on a second mission, and when you come back, they said, you can volunteer as a temple worker. Boy, these Mormons don't leave you alone for a minute. And what do I get for all that, I asked? "Well," they said, "for one, you can look forward to a funeral service at no charge!" ... Do you think you can help me to find another church? more

Resolved Question: Foreskin restoration questions...need opinions?

Ok i have just heard about this and have only actually thought about my foreskin this much now, it's never really crossed my mind but now i feel like i didn't even have a choice and it was just cut off of me...i can just imagine myself as an infant screaming as my father stare's at my despair thinking "be one of US!!!" ~_~...anyway my questions: 1.) they say you cannot restore the frenulum from being circumcised through restoration, but i was not fully circumcised, at least not that intact, and i still have my frenulum and some loose skin hanging from it, will that in any way help/hamper the restoration method? and will it function as a natural frenulum after the restoration? as if i was never circumcised? 2.) is 16 too young...i have done intensive research and a lot of people say yes its too young wait till im 21, others say DO IT NOW because its harder when your older, im confused. 3.) Every site i go to recommends i buy this thing called T-tape, or other wise some sort of complicated devise that look's like it can decapitate your penis off (they come in many names), but the things is my parents wont approve of me restoring my foreskin and they're bound to find out if i've bought any of these cus they have complete control of my funding...and it would be embarrassing to be caught buying those stuff. so is there anything that i can find at HOME that can be as effective as these stuff? more

Resolved Question: Physical Punishment of young sons, Want to read the thoughts of those who have gotten it or approve of it.?

Physical punishment is a last resort punishment done by leather belt or wooden rod. Between the ages of 7 to 18, what is the youngest age to strap or cane a youth and how severe should it be? I want to know what others who have gotten punished this way or who beleive in physical punishment, think about this. Last time, I only heard from all those who do not beleive in this and I am not interested in hear from those who do not beleive in it or are total indoctrinated into new ways. This time, I related a lot more and qualified things that were not stated last time. Pysical punished is a last resort punishment only; we do talk about many things good and bad first. Strapping or caning is for repeat offenses or seriously bad offenses that they know in advance they should not have done. Read below what happened, then write your answer to me. I Did not nor would I consider beating them half to death or sceneless, but to have them afraid of physical punishment, definitely YES! And I do spend time with them at home, hiking &camping, fishing, riflery, archery, chess, word games (Scrabble & Boggle), doing their homework, taking day trips to museums, historical events, & theme parks. However, sometimes, wild oats sets wild spirits free, too free and wild. So far, no police contact because of their actions, but they need to be reined in more. The 12, 10, and 7 years old followed a pair of other brothers 13 and 11, who are their friends, on a path of destruction and damage. Only mine are doing corrective restorations and had to face the property owner directly. All were told that they were going to be strapped, but two days later, on the day of punishment, the younger two learned after stripping down that they would not be strapped this time, but they would get the same if they do something like this again. He was bound with his arms outstretched and his knees bound together as were his ankles. I only strapped the 12 year old on his bare back and buttocks as an example to the other two as they watched. He got two strokes for each year of age on his back and the same on his buttocks. The 12 year old did have raised welts from most of the lashes, but no blood was drawn and I did not want to drawn nor create any scars either; he did not bruise either. They are good looking boys with fine toned bodies and in warmer weather, they love to go shirtless; I would not want to have them disfigured in any way or form. We did talk first a couple of days before the punishment and he was punished for his terrible actions, not out of my angry nor heat of the moment. I was calm and deliberate in doing it. It was not rushed. He got a stroke and I waited until he was done reacting to it before laying on the next one. After it was over, he remained bound for an hour to reflect on his actions and punishment. We all stayed with him for the hour, but one spoke to him as it was a tie of silence for reflection. When I released him, we hugged and I told him I was sorry that it had to come to this. This was when he actually cried on my shoulder as he held me and I held him. While he was holding me in a tight hug and crying; he was telling me, he was really sorry for doing it and leading his younger brothers to do it too. We do love each other very much. Just before he let go of me, he looked me straight in the face, eye-to-eye, and said "If I am every this bad again and you have to whip me, don't do it easy on me. Beat the s*** out of me for doing it! I'll understand and remember that I said this to you. I always want to be your good son and have you proud of me." I told him, I hope never to have to do this again, but if I did, I would. We kissed after that and he went to bed with his brothers. That was over a month ago and nothing bad has happened since. And it was the first and only time, I ever physically punished them. Prior to this, I actually never even spanked any of them. The only time my hand pats their butt is to send them on their way with the words "Scoot-a-boot" and they go out to play, or to the bus, or witth friends, or whatever. We just always talked about their bad deeds, but their deeds were never destrcutive before. I felt this time, it required more than just a discussion. I have taught them all the good and right ways of life. However, I fear pier pressure and running with the crowd at times, chips away at my teaching and upbringing. My brothers and I were whipped as children; I was whipped with a belt five times in my life between ages 8 to 16, on my bare buttocks and bare back by my father My father (1930 - 1979), grandfather (born 1891 - 1971), and great grandfather (born 1856 - 1919) were all whipped as children. I can only assume that my great great grandfather (1820 - 1870) was also whipped too since he whipped. I know neither my father and grandfather were not scared from any of their whippings and my father told me that he never bled from any of his whippings, but he sai more

Resolved Question: Ladies- am I close on this one regarding a "woman's mindset"...?

aight so this isnt so much of a direct question as much as me wanting to hear ur girls thoughts on this... so Im a 25 year old man, and I know I have some physical "dissapointments", im going very bald, i do not tan, and if i really wanna be critical of myself- my teeth are too damn small and spaced out. Honestly tho I know Im still very cute tho as a man. Now when Im not wearin a hat and Im out with my friends, and we are around chicks, I kinda feel like some girls expect for me to be inferior. Once I start talking, and using eye contact and all that, it almost seems to me that these girls are somewhat "takin back" and do not know how to deal with me. Some days when I wake up in a good mood I like to leave the hat home just so I can try to have these kind of situations happen. I almost get off knowing that my projected confidence can change a girls thoughts on the "norm". Its seems to thro girls off and leave them unsure of what to think of me, and SOMETIMES they even seem to get a little angry. Another thing is my friends, they bust my balls all the time about my baldness but once the girls come around it looks like the only people really concerned about my baldness was them guys- dorks. Its like there tryin to make themselves feel better. Yes I am going to get the restoration surgery FOR MYSELF when i can afford it but untill then I gotta live rite... And i get it DONE in the bedroom whenever i get the chance and Im not inferior. So girls- am I nuts in my thinking and should chill out or can u see what im saying. Might you treat a balding guy a lil different and then be shocked by his confidence. Can u definitly see where Im coming from. I mean look how many girls wanna sleep with Tony Soprano----- no pity answers, im a big boy, say what u want to say...yea i see wait ur saying about vain-ness or intimidation, I try not to come off like that- Im always polite, ALWAYS, I gotta say tho, thinking that I may be facing an up-hill battle with girls at first meet, I may be over-confident at times but that cant be that bad---- Hey douglas when a post asks for a Ladies oppinion, as much as u may love wearing thongs under ur jeans all day- I aint talkin to you more

Resolved Question: Foreskin restoration (criticizers need not answer)?

i am 17 y/o right now. wont be 18 till mid october. i have researched this topic abit. i have seen a circumcision in life and am sickened by what happens to them infants. i was cut at birth. i would like to do this procedure, but i am still living at home and wont move out till after i graduate hs next year, and i have no credit card either. now i am wondering how to discuss this topic w/ my parents, since the foreskin restoration discussion is always awkward. if i were to get a device from like ebay or tlctugger.com, my family is the type to open or inspect packages even if its not theirs. if i did get a device and they saw it, i don't think they would even know what its for (i would feel embrassed if they did know what it was for). there is also the charge on the credit card. how do u suggest i open up a discussion about this topic w/ my parents and persuading them to let me do this? any tips would be helpful. more

Resolved Question: Does America need to protect a mouse or citizens who have lost their jobs & their homes.?

The RATS are behind closed doors.....and all we get is the "O" hole! Lawmakers and administration officials divulged Wednesday that the $789 billion economic stimulus bill being finalized behind closed doors in Congress includes $30 million for wetlands restoration that the Obama administration intends to spend in the San Francisco Bay Area to protect, among other things, the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi represents the city of San Francisco and has previously championed preserving the mouse's habitat in the Bay Area. The revelation immediately became a political football, as Republicans accused Democrats of reneging on a promise to keep so-called earmarks that fund lawmakers' favorite projects out of the legislation. Democrats, including Mrs. Pelosi, countered that the accusations were fabricated. See related story: Deal reached on historic stimulus http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/12/earmark-less-bill-gives-pelosis-mouse-cookie/ I hope you'll take the time to read this and tell me what you think. Do you believe a mouse is more important than spending the money on the "emergency" Americans face in their daily lives? Thanks Mona-Lisa. I understand a little about the trash thrown overboard. I don't think the ships are doing it anymore (at least not American) My husband is a retired Merchant Sea-Captain w/Matson and they enforce strick disposal of all their trash. I believe it to be the private sailors and tourists, though. I understand about cleaning it up, and perhaps it will create jobs. I am upset because there seems to be so many projects that have added up to equal such a large amount. Most of what I've heard are not for the emergency money we were first led to believe it was for. Anyway, you gave a brilliant answer to a very serious question. more
