Open Question: "A cable is not pluged into the network adapter 'Local Area Connection'" ?

Ever since today, internet didn't work. I tried the Windows Network Diagnostics, and it said (the above). I use a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. I don't even have a cable plugged into it. I use a Linksys Wireless Router (Broadband 2.4 GHz). My installed Internet Wireless LAN adapter is a "BroadCom 802.11 Wireless LAN Adapter". Last thing is that my computer has a little switch on the side that turns red when you want to turn off wireless, and then turns blue if you switch it to right to turn on Wireless. I use a HP Pavillion dv6000. Even when I switch the to the wireless side, it is still red! By the Way, I use Vista Home Premium. Please Help! more

Open Question: Netbook for photo editing?

Hello, I need a new laptop. I'm a semi-professional photographer, and have a great set-up. 2 desktops, 1 pc which is a beast, and runs Adobe Master Collection CS4, and an iMac 24" fully upgraded that runs Aperture and CS4 perfectly. But I need a new laptop. I can't go over $1000. So I was looking at the white macbook. But then an hp caught my eye. It's a netbook, but I don't know if it is powerful enough for what the laptop would be used for. Which is; photo editing, but mainly just at the events that I work at, and of course, word-processing, internet browsing and the sort. If I went with the netbook, I would save about $500, which I can invest in some glass (lenses) with.Which one? I'd actually prefer to go with the netbook, but is it powerful enough? And also would the tiny screen, 10.1", drive me crazy? The laptops would mainly be used for quick editing until I got back to either the studio or home. And also the hard drive capacity isn't an issue, I work with wireless hard drives, so nothing is really actually on the computer. Open Question: Connect to a network printer behind a router using router's external ip address?

1) I have a router to which a laptop and a network capable printer are connected. I can connect to the printer from anywhere in my house wireless using the laptop. 2) The router receives it's external connection from a 24 port switch with management. 3) I have a desktop computer that is connected to this same 24 port switch. My question is the following: How do i connect to the printer using the desktop? I can see the router and it's external IP address. The problem is that i cannot see anything behind the router, like the laptop or the printer which have INTERNAL ip addresses. 89.36.51.xx is the router's EXTERNAL ip address 192.168.10.1 is the router's INTERNAL ip address 192.168.10.122 is the laptop's ip address 192.168.10.140 is the printer's ip address My desktop's ip address is 89.36.51.yy. So how do i get to the printer considering the printer only has a local ip address. Printer is an HP laserjet 4000 PC6 Router is a Trendnet TEW632BRP It is probably the same thing as trying to access this network printer from the internet. How is it done? Thank you in advance and kind regards. more

Open Question: I'm having some serious computer trouble?

I don't really know a whole lot about computers, so other websites aren't logical for my understanding of my problem. My computer is no more than 3 months old. I'll try to tell you as much stuff as I can figure out. The computer is a laptop by HP, the sticker near the keypad says 'intel Core 2 Duo' another sticker says 'energy star' and the last one says 'windows vista'. That is about all I can figure out about it, I don't know if that helps any but it couldn't hurt to say it. So here is my problem. Every time I start the computer up, nothing loads like it normally should, sometimes I get absolutely nothing but a black screen, but most of the time I get a blue screen that says a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo (the bottom of the screen says something like 'dumping physical memory' or something of that nature). After that completes, I manually restart the computer, and I then go to a screen about fixing the problem. That process takes about 15 minutes total, but I can finally get the computer working. I know something is wrong with the computer because it shouldn't take 15-20 minutes to get a brand new computer started up. I'm not sure if it helps any, but I remember my dad encountering a problem that may be similar to this when he set my computer up, he grew impatient after 10 minutes of no sign of improvement, but after it was all set up, there were no problems anymore, but this one I'm currently having came about a month and a half after that. If anyone knows what is wrong, or how to fix it, or any advice for me, I would really appreciate hearing from you before I shut down for the night. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Is the customer service at Dell really that bad? What laptop should I choose? (Design student)?

I'm a Communication Design student going into the second year of UNT's 4 year program. It is now required that we have our own laptop to bring to class, and I am pulling my hair out trying to earn enough money to get a nice one by the end of the summer. I need the laptop to last for 4 years, because I know after graduation I will not have enough money for a new one right off. I had my heart set on a 17-inch Dell Studio laptop for months. Customized with the Design Studio cover, maxed out processor, 4 gigs of RAM, the whole bit. The price of the system before tax comes to around $1500. Recently I began reading user reviews on CNET and similar sites, and the reviews for these laptops are atrocious. Ranging from crap computers to terrible and time-wasting service, I'm definitely on guard now. I have three options: I can buy the Studio laptop. *I love the included numberpad *Much better customization options *Larger screen *Not a Mac OS *I already have Adobe CS3 for PC I can buy a 13" Macbook Pro with the 2.53 GHz processor, 4 gigs of RAM and Applecare *More portability *I already have a 19" monitor I can hook it up to make up for the diminished screen size *Seems much more reliable *I could get a free 8 GB iPod touch, then sell it on craigslist for about $200 which would essentially cover the cost of the care plan. *Having a computer that actually has Helvetica on it would be nice. Buying a used MacBook Pro off of craigslist *Sort of risky *A lot of these are just designers upgrading to a bigger size, so many of these have Adobe CS4 pre-installed which is a huge bonus. *Cheaper, but no free iPod to sell off. My main PC to Mac concern is that if I buy a new mac I will not have enough money to buy an Adobe suite, which means I'll either have to run those only on Windows in bootcamp, or I'll have to find means of pirating it. :( The other big concern is that I won't have enough money to buy these until about two weeks before I move back in to school. So if I do buy a Dell online, and it's a lemon and needs to be sent back and refunded, I probably won't get it all dealt with before classes start, and that's a big problem. I am in no way interested in buying an HP, almost everyone I know has problems with them. My girlfriends hard drive crashed, my friend's went to shit shortly after the warranty expired. Most people I hear who have problems with them, have the issues right after the warranty's up. I am insistent on paying for an extended warranty. A lot of people say it's a waste, but I would much rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I don't want a mac because it's a design standard. I would prefer not to have the same damn laptop every other kid in my class has, I am solely concerned about reliability and overall value. The Studio laptop and Macbooks that I mentioned above are roughly the same price if you take into consideration me selling off the free iPod and going off the student price for macbooks. The Dell student discount isn't as good and they don't seem to offer studio 17's... I would like to hear some advice on laptop owners as to where I should go now. Please only answer if you actually own one of the laptops in question, I need to hear from real customers, and please no "Macs are bullshit get a PC" kind of answers and vice versa. more

Open Question: Would a desktop and laptop combination work nicely?

I have a question for all of you out there: the question is stated above, lol. So here's my problem. I need a newer, faster computer. Right now I have a laptop with a dual monitor display, I have one monitor connected via VGA to my laptop. The dual screen is very nice. Here are my current laptop specs: HP dv6000 series, AMD Turion Dual Core 2.0 Ghz, 3 Gb DDR2 RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Nvidia Geforce 7150m IGP, 140GB hard drive. As you can see, its not that well equipped for gaming. And I am looking for a new computer that can handle a bit newer games. I configured a pretty nice HP laptop for $769, it has a 17 inch and ATI graphics, with an Intel 2.0Ghz processor. The specs are pretty good. However, the specs on the laptop are nothing near the specs on a desktop. I configured one from HP (I really like HP) and the specs are amazing. Intel core 2 quad 2.33GHz, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 640GB hard drive, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1Gb dedicated video memory. All for $714. Here's the problem though. I really want the specs on the desktop, but I need to replace my laptop. I would really like to have good specs on the go and not keep my current laptop and get a desktop for home use. I can only get one. Also, if I got the desktop, that would take away my dual monitorness. I would have my laptop screen, and my HP monitor would connect to my desktop, so they wouldn't be able to work together. I don't know which I would rather have, better specs on a desktop but no portability and no laptop upgrade. Or, laptop upgrade, but not as good specs. Can someone help me out here? What should I do? more

Open Question: need help with error messages on computer?

I have windows XP and i keep getting "setconfig application" dialogue box that opens whenever i go into any type of program. When I go into the details it is usually associated with a file that looks like this: c\docume~1\owner\locals`1\temp\f990_appcompat.txt. The number at the end always changes and where it says owner, it would say whoever log in name its in at the time. When I click on fix it leads to page saying its related to my HP driver for printer. Anyone know if this could be because of a bad driver or corrupt driver? I do not seem to have any issues with the printer. I also have one laptop networked to the printer and it works fine here too. Any suggestions? If suggestion includes reloading another driver, please give some details, I am not that computer savvy. Thanks more

Open Question: My zune isnt working with my new laptop-please help!!?

Open Question: Is this laptop a good laptop for playin sims 3?

Open Question: sims 3 is slow and memory is running out?

Bear with me this is gonna be a long question.I just bought the sims 3 and am running it on my hp laptop. When I first tried to install it I didn't have enough available memory so I had to delete several things including my sims 2 game and all it's expansions. Then I had enough to install the game. But then when I try to play it, it is very slow and my computer keeps popping up with messages that say low virtual memory. Is there any way to expand the memory on my computer or do something that will make the game run faster? It takes forever to do the smallest of things like changing the wall color. Please don't tell me that laptops don't work with this program and I need to go use a desktop. The laptop is my only computer and I am not going to go buy a new one. And I already spent 50 bucks on the game and I'm not gonna spend a bundle getting a new hardrive. Please offer cheap effective methods! Oh and I'm not some techno freak so explain in terms I can understand. ThanksOh yeah and the graphics are terrible and blurry. more

Open Question: Looking at new laptops and worried about overheating.?

I've been looking at some good laptops to get before I start school this fall, and I'm worried that I might buy one that over heats really easily and I'll have to go buy an extra fan add on. That's not beyond me, but I don't feel like having to deal with an extra noisy add on. Is there a way to tell if it might be prone to overheating, like a certain processor or other component? I'm currently looking at: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/store_access.do?template_type=product_detail&product_code=NV032UA%23ABA and http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&series_name=dv6z_series I customized the extra graphics, RAM, and better processor too, so that's one reason I'm worried, since I beefed it up a little more. more

Open Question: My mother's laptop keeps turning off, help?

Recently, both my mother and I splurged and bought two identical HP Compaq nc6120. Now, mine works great, I love the thing. My mother's though, not to much. She keeps having me look at her computer because the second you unplug it from outlet power, the computer shuts off. I myself thought it was a battery problem, but we've only had the computers for two months. I took out the battery and put it back in again, and it then worked. Next morning though, it didn't again. Does anyone know anything that may be wrong or a way to fix it? more

Open Question: How to convince my mom............?

Hey Y!A. I apologize in advance for the length. I am in desperate need of a laptop. I really want my mom to buy me one, but I don't know how to convince her. Please don't call me a spoiled brat, because I am the farthest thing away from that. I pay for my phone bill every month, if I want anything, I have to pay for it. It just seems unfair. I even have to help to pay for the bills. The current computer I'm using is the family computer. It's a laptop that is literally falling apart. It's crashed 4 times and the battery life is terrible. A few of the keys have fallen off and the hinges are broken. I really need a laptop of my own. I found a really inexpensive good quality laptop. It's called the HP 15.6" G60-231WM Notebook PC. It's only $598 and it has a calculator keypad, integrated webcam, good battery life, and everything else I could ever want in a laptop. If anybody could give me tips or ideas on how to convince my mom in buying this laptop, then that would be great!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!my birthday passed in February so that is out of the question. i will also need it for school in September. i can't really wait that long.im alreadyy takingg an advanced computer graphics class loli just got my report card and straight a's again [: i am a straight a student and on the high honor roll for the 8th time in 8 semesters [: more

Resolved Question: Reformatting windows XP?

I bought my HP laptop last year, which originally came with windows vista. After having some problems my friend who is a computer tech switched out windows vista for windows XP. He forgot to reinstall my anti-virus software so i've been having a lot of problems with it. I can no longer reformat my computer by pressing F11 on the start up screen and I have no CDs or DVDs to reformat it. I was wondering what I can do to reformat it, I don't care if it's back to windows Vista or if it keeps windows XP. Either way it's good with me. Is there way for me to make a cd with my other Vista Labtop and formatt my laptop that way? Just let me know.I don't have any CD, I was wondering if I could MAKE CD through my computer that is working properly and use it on my computer that isn't working properly. more
